Michael Bolton (born Michael Bolotin in New Haven, Connecticut, February 26, 1954) is an American pop, rock and adult contemporary singer-songwriter known for his soft rock ballads and powerful singing voice.
His achievements include selling 53 million albums, eight top ten albums, nine number one singles on the Billboard charts, as well as awards from both the American Music Awards and Grammys.
Bolton was born in 1953 to a Jewish family in New Haven, Connecticut. Bolton found his biggest success in his mid-eighties and early nineties as a solo vocalist in the adult contemporary/easy listening genre. Unbeknownst to many, however, Bolton received his first record label contract at the age of 15 and got his first national exposure in the late seventies with a hard rock band called Blackjack, which also featured one-time Kiss guitarist Bruce Kulick, in which he was known by his birth name.
