Webbie (born Webster Gradney, Jr. on September 6, 1985) is a rapper from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He came into the hip-hop scene in 2005 with "Give Me That" which featured UGK rapper Bun B. His song "Bad Chick" was featured in the 2005 movie Hustle & Flow. Webbie's debut album Savage Life was released in July 2005.
Webbie was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. His mother Jocelyn died when he was only eight years old of cancer. He spent his teen years living with his father and grandmother. Webbie started rapping at the age of 5. At the age of 15, Webbie signed to the record label Trill Entertainment which was co-owned by then incarcerated rapper Pimp C.
In August of 2005, Webbie, along with his Trill Entertainment cohorts released a confrontational track, attacking West Coast rap artist N'vyus (who currently resides in Baton Rouge) for beefing with various local artists and subsequently backing away from them. There are three tracks released online which are set to be released on the Trill Entertainment Presents How The Dirty Wuz Won mixtape that aim directly at N'vyus, citing incidents at a concert in New Orleans, confrontational comments made on songs and N'vyus' alleged beefs with other locals.
As of July 30, 2005, N'vyus has not responded or commented on this firery conflict.
Apparently, Baton Rouge rapper Beelow was caught distributing bootleg copies of Trill Entertainment mixtapes and was confronted about the situation in 2005, which then resulted in the rapper suffering multiple gunshot wounds at the record store he owned. The rapper has since released various diss tracks and Trill Entertainment has also traded words with him.
